January 17, 2021, is a date that Isabella Moyes will never forget because that is the day she literally caught fire.
Isabella and her fiancé Dylan had just been to Bearizona Wildlife Park in Williams, Arizona, and were on their way to Laughlin to enjoy a camping trip with family. As they traveled down State Route 68, a two-lane split highway, the driver of a large pickup truck with propane tanks in the bed pulled out in front of them.
Impossible to miss, the truck was t-boned by the car Isabella was riding in, causing the propane tanks to explode and engulf both vehicles in flames. Isabella and Dylan were both able to escape the burning wreckage and were transported to Kingman Regional Medical Center. After that, she doesn’t remember much – which, she admits, is probably for the best.
“I wasn’t expecting to receive anything at all and I still got a check back after the medical bills were paid.”
It soon became clear that Kingman Regional was ill-equipped to care for Isabella’s severe injuries. Four of her vertebrae had been fractured and she suffered second-degree burns to her face, in her throat, and on her hands.
She was transported via helicopter to Sunrise Hospital & Medical Center in Las Vegas and had to have a breathing tube inserted in her burned throat so she could breathe. She spent five days in the hospital where they grafted pork skin with amniotic fluid onto her face to speed the healing process.
“It looked really weird,” Isabella remembers. “My skin was crusty and red, but it flaked off after a few weeks and obviously worked because now you can’t even tell.”
After she was discharged from the hospital, Isabella was required to wear a back brace for three months and couldn’t go out in the sun – pretty difficult when you live in Las Vegas!
In a fortuitous twist of fate, Isabella’s best friend has an uncle, Toby Yurek, who is the Managing Partner at GGRM. A few days after she left the hospital, Toby met with Isabella to offer help.
“Everyone at GGRM was super amazing and I can’t imagine going with anyone else, to be honest.”
Three insurance companies were involved in resolving Isabella’s claim, and all three paid something toward her recovery. All her medical bills were paid, and she even got compensation for pain and suffering.
“I wasn’t expecting to receive anything at all and I still got a check back after the medical bills were paid,” says Isabella. “Everyone at GGRM was super amazing and I can’t imagine going with anyone else, to be honest.”
“I am so happy that I can put this all behind me. All the medical stuff is over and I don’t have to worry about being in debt. I can move on, focus on my wedding and the rest of my life.”
Now Isabella is looking forward to another date she will never forget: April 22, 2022. That is the day she will marry Dylan, who has also recovered from the accident that broke his left hand in three places and almost severed his thumb.
The relief in her voice is palpable: “I am so happy that I can put this all behind me. All the medical stuff is over and I don’t have to worry about being in debt. I can move on, focus on my wedding and the rest of my life.”
