Las Vegas Mass Tort Lawyers
Pharmaceutical companies are not much different than any other competitive industry. CEOs and researchers are under constant stress to develop the next great wonder drug. Then, as soon as its been developed and tested positively in their studies, pharmaceutical companies spend millions of dollars marketing medications. Unfortunately, mistakes or failures by pharmaceutical companies can cost lives and cause injuries.
Such is the case with Pradaxa. This alternative blood thinner was approved by the FDA in October 2010 and German manufacturer Boehringer Ingelheim spent an incredible $464 million in promotions the following year. Yet, that marketing failed to warn of the incredible risks of the drug. Within just two years of its release, over 500 deaths were linked to Pradaxa use.
At Greenman, Goldberg, Raby and Martinez, our Las Vegas mass tort lawyers are concerned for families impacted by Pradaxa and are proud to stand on the side of fellow Southern Nevada residents to fight for the victims’ rights and just compensation.
The Basics of Pradaxa & Why it is Dangerous
Pradaxa was the first drug to break into the exclusive anticoagulant market in over 50 years and compete against Warfarin, previously the only U.S.-available blood thinner used for major blood clot conditions. The new drug was touted as being easier to use and more efficient as its predecessor and didn't require users to keep a certain diet or complete regular blood tests.
Shortly after release, patients reported that once bleeding occurred, the blood thinner became difficult, sometimes impossible to stop. In contrast, Warfarin, has a built-in 'antidote' that safely resolves most sudden bleeding events.
In addition to this questionable efficacy, because Pradaxa was marketed as a take-and-forget-it, one-size-fits-all-drug, many patients did not go to regular check-up visits with their doctor which may have prevented extreme complications.
Pradaxa risks and claim complications include:
- Bleeding in the brain
- Excessive bleeding that results in death
- Internal bleeding that may result in death

At GGRM, our Las Vegas mass tort lawyers are currently taking on a second round of Pradaxa lawsuits. We believe, as do other legal experts, this round may fair even better for victims as allegations were never fully scrutinized inside a courtroom.
