Low-T / Testosterone Therapy

Mass Tort Attorneys in Las Vegas

Greenman, Goldberg, Raby and Martinez is currently investigating and accepting new claims for injuries related to low testosterone therapy.

Low testosterone, also frequently referred to as 'low-t', is a common condition in men as they reach their 60s and 70s. According to the Urology Care Foundation, about 50% of men who have reached their 80s will have experienced a drop in their testosterone levels. As their bodies produce less testosterone, men may begin to feel more fatigued and moody. They may also lose muscle mass and gain weight more rapidly than before. Many men will also feel a loss of sexual drive and energy.

With all of the important functions provided by testosterone, it should come as no surprise, therapy marketed to boost a man's production of the hormone is a multi-billion dollar industry. These replacement therapies may be administered in the form of gels, patches, sprays, and injections, all of which can pose serious health risks to men. If you or someone you know was injured following the implementation of low-t therapy, you should contact a mass tort attorney as soon as possible.

The Dangers of Low-T / Testosterone Therapy

Low-t therapies frequently promise their hormone injections will make men feel more alert, energetic, and sexually functional. Yet, they rarely linger on the safety concerns associated with their products' use. A November 2013 study published in The Journal of the American Medical Association showed the correlation of testosterone therapy in 8,700 men with increased rates of heart attacks, strokes, and deaths.

Another medical study jointly conducted by researchers at UCLA and US National Cancer Institute showed a 200% increased risk of heart attacks in men 65 and older in the immediate 90 days following their first low-t therapy prescription.

Following the publication of these and other studies, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced its own general review concerning the safety of all low-t therapies. In this medical safety alert, the agency strongly urged doctors to reconsider the benefits of testosterone treatment weighed against the risks. The alert reinforced the life-threatening consequences to some patients who show a higher-risk to cardiovascular problems.

The dangers of testosterone therapies include increased risk for:

  • Heart attacks
  • Strokes
  • Deep vein thrombosis
  • Pulmonary embolism
  • Death due to cardiovascular problems
